Margaret Teresita (Lesnok) Goodspeed Koches

GIRARD A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday February 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating for Margaret Teresita Goodspeed Koches, 93, who died Thursday February 1, 2018 at Liberty Healthcare. She was born March 12, 1924 at her home in Hubbard, a daughter of John and Susie Deimer Lesnok and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Koches, a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church was a 1942 graduate of Hubbard High School and attended Youngstown State University. She enlisted with the United States Navy in 1944 and served during World War II. She was 1 of 3 women from Hubbard who served in the service during World War II and was a Pharmacist Mate in the Navy stationed in Bethesda, MD. She was authorized to wear the American Campaign and World War II Victory Ribbons and upon discharge she was issued the Honorable Service Lapel Pin on August 27, 1946.

After returning from the war she worked at Strouss department store and Valley Mould. Margaret enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, reading and playing Bingo.

Her first husband, Donald Goodspeed, served with the United States Army during World War II and was involved in the atomic bombing. Her second husband, Andrew Koches, whom she married August 7, 1971, died in 2000.

She leaves a daughter, Nancy (Charles) Goodspeed Himes of Girard; two granddaughters, Jocelyn Himes of Girard and Lisa (David) Himes Zalovcik of Hubbard; three great-grandchildren, Lydia, Dominic and Walker.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers, Michael Lesnok, John Lesnok who served in the Air Force, Joseph Lesnok who served in the Navy and Thomas and Edward Lesnok who both served in the Army; two sisters, Ann Sampson who was a “Rosie the Riveter” and Mary Lesnok.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday February 6, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with full military honors provided by West Middlesex VFW Post 6233.

Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.
